Service Description

The initial diagnostic will take about 1.5 hours and provide detailed information of skill gaps. A diagnostic appointment is required prior to Orton Gillingham tutoring. Orton–Gillingham's step-by-step approach is based on how children learn language. Students must master one reading skill before moving on to the next. The OG approach to reading instruction is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach reading and spelling. The Orton-Gillingham process begins with letters, progresses to syllables and continues with multi-syllable words. Instruction will vary depending on the child's own pace. It is a systematic scope and sequence that is in a natural progression of difficulty levels. The advanced levels of instruction include word origins and the study of Greek and Latin Roots. Students of all ages learn critical sound-symbol connections to close the skill gaps in reading and spelling.
